On Sunday, August 12, 2018, Family Promise held their back to school celebration for the children of Family Promise. A big Thank You to our sponsors for assisting our families with much needed school supplies and haircuts: Vogue Academy of Cosmetology, Chick-fil-A restaurants, and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. The kids and their families celebrated with ice cream sundaes, and chicken nuggets, while obtaining backpacks and school supplies. Vogue Cosmetology provided haircuts to those who desired during the event as well. Thanks to their generosities the children of Family Promise will go to school prepared with what they need to succeed this year in style. Below are some pictures from the event.
Family Promise of Lubbock will celebrate the addition of a new home for homeless families on Thursday, July 19. The “Blessing of the House” will take place at 1:30 at 2302 13th Street.
Pregnant and homeless women have few options when living on the streets. The new space at Family Promise is designed to house these homeless expectant mothers. They will continue to stay after the birth of their babies. Therefore, each bedroom is fully furnished and contains a baby bed.
Holy Spirit Catholic Church, recognizing the need to assist expectant mothers living on the streets, provided the funding to renovate a space that had previously been used as storage. The remodeled space now has two bedrooms, a full bathroom, utility room and living room. It has been named “The Spirit House.”
Father Rudi Crasta will deliver a blessing as the remodeled facility opens its doors to the homeless in Lubbock.
The Family Promise Pregnancy Care program provides expectant mothers with safe housing, food and classes designed to help these mothers during their pregnancy. After a mother gives birth Family Promise continues to provide safe housing, food, baby supplies such as diapers, wipes, and clothing. Classes are continued to help mother and baby begin life together with a strong foundation. Mother and baby remain in the program until the mother can find employment, financial stability, and a new place to call home.
Family Promise has served homeless families with children since 1998. Family Promise is more than a shelter, it is a stepping stone for families who wish to leave homelessness and provide a bright future for children. When homeless families have nowhere to turn, Family Promise provides hope for a second chance. Family Promise provides a home, meals and a safe place for kids while parents rebuild their lives to leave homelessness forever.
In the past two years 23 families who completed the Family Promise program are now living independently. Those families total 87 individuals with 15 of those under the age of one year old.
“The number of homeless families continues to grow,” says Doug Morris, Executive Director of Family Promise. “Here, families can stay together, they aren’t separated as happens in many shelters. So they can work together to overcome their problems and build their future together.”
There is never a charge to families while they live at Family Promise. A network of 26 churches of all denominations throughout Lubbock provide meals each day as well mentors to the families.
There will be opportunities to tour and photograph the home. Interviews will be given by volunteers and families in the program.

The 2017 Family Promise Gala is fast approaching and we hope you will join us for a very entertaining and inspiring evening. Many of our attendees enjoy sitting together with friends and co-workers and often take advantage of the opportunity to reserve a table and be named as a table sponsor.
Our theme this year is "RISE UP! Homeless to Home." Entertainment will be Lubbock's own Karleigh Porterfield and the Dance Gallery's Messenger Outreach Company. Along with dazzling entertainment, we will be blessed by testimonies of current and past families who have been served by Family Promise. Expect to be moved by these families as they tell of their journey from being homeless to becoming self-supporting. We are also honored to have longtime Lubbock native as our guest speaker for the evening.
The Family Promise Annual Gala is the most impactful fundraiser of the year. Your generous support of this event makes an immediate and direct impact on homeless families in Lubbock enabling them to achieve a better life for their children. Family Promise continues to provide a hand-up to homeless families with children under the ages of 18. In 2016, 17 homeless families began a new life. The lives of 23 adults and 43 children, including 20 under the age of five, have been transformed as they are no longer homeless because of the work of Family Promise and the many caring and generous supporters.
We are excited to have partnered with Giving Tuesday Lubbock, a 24 hour fundraising event that brings together the community for one common purpose: To celebrate generosity and to give.
Now through November 28th, you can help your favorite Lubbock Nonprofit, FAMILY PROMISE, by donating to our cause of ending homelessness. Your help will enable us to provide supportive services such as transportation, meals, daycare and permanent housing. You can help provide hope to children and their parents by simply supporting our fundraising efforts.

Family Promise of Lubbock is proud to be part of a nationwide effort to help children and families who are homeless regain their sustainable independence. The week of Sunday, October 18 through Sunday, October 25, has been designated Family Promise Week.
Family Promise Week will be celebrated nationwide and in the 192 communities where there is a Family Promise Affiliate. Since 1988, Family Promise has helped more than 600,000 people—men, women and children—with housing, case management and other services.
Started as a local effort to address the crisis of family homelessness, Family Promise works on the principle that the elements to help children and their families—who make up 40% of all people who are homeless—are already in the community. The program brings together houses of worship to provide temporary homes, facilities to provide space during the day for case management, and most importantly, thousands of volunteers who, by sharing a few hours of their time, enable families to turn their lives around.
