Family
Promise of Lubbock’s core programs include the Interfaith
Hospitality Network (IHN) and the Family Day Center. In the
future we plan to implement our Pathways Program that will
provide in-home case management follow up services for at
least a year. This program will allow families to learn and
practice the skills they need while living in the comfort of
their own environment.
Family
Promise fills an important niche in our community. Unlike
many shelters, families are allowed to remain together in a
safe, supportive home-like setting in which they are able to
care for their children, regardless of their children’s ages
or gender. In addition, Family Promise is
cost-effective because it makes use of existing community
resources.
IHN: Currently a network of more than 700 volunteers from 27 congregations
collaborate with Family Promise Lubbock to provide
year-round shelter, weekend transportation, meals and
friendship to client families as they work intensively with
Family Promise’s professional staff to achieve goals of
permanent housing and self-sufficiency. During the day,
parents who are not working utilize Family Promise’s current
Day Center to shower, do laundry, care for pre-school and
ill children, seek work and meet with the counselor. The
Family Day Center provides guests with a phone line, a
mailing address, child care, and a base for counseling,
training, housing and employment searches.
During
2005 Family Promise served 99 families including 192
children under the age of 18.
Thirty-one
percent of the total number of children
served were under the age of five. Congregations and
volunteers provided 6,154 beds and 18,809 meals.
